After being relegated to division 2 in the 1976-77 campaign, they kicked of the updated campaign with a good start winning 6 of their first 8 games. Only 48 hours before their game against Bristol Rovers, manager Keith Burkinshaw bought Torquay striker Colin Lee. Only 21 minutes into the game, Lee scored his first Spurs goal followed by another one 4 minutes later. The game ended 9-0 and Tottenham finished the campaign with a promotion back up to first division.
